Actor David Bresnahan Accepts Role in “Famine,” an International Film

Irish-American actor David Bresnahan has accepted a supporting role in the international film Famine, the story of the devastating famines of the 1800s in Ireland.

Salt Lake City, UT, USA — Irish-American actor Dave Bresnahan says he is honored to play the role of an Irish Catholic priest in the film Famine, which tells the story of devastation that took place in Ireland because of the famine of 1847.

“I am happy to be a part of a project that will show the true heart-ache and immense loss of life caused by the Irish famine, unlike others who are endeavoring to turn this story into a subject of comedy, which news stories have recently detailed in the Irish news media. The Irish famine is nothing to laugh at, and I am proud to be a part of this historic film,” said Bresnahan.

Bresnahan is an actor with many independent film and television credits, as well as a commercial and voice actor, motivational speaker, and former journalist turned public relations consultant. His detailed biography can be found at

The movie Famine will be directed by Omer Sarikaya, who is also the screenwriter. Famine is based on the true story of how Turkey was the only country to come to the aid of Ireland during the famine of 1845-47. It depicts the devastation and tragic loss of life through a story of love and jealousy.

Filming will take place in Ireland, England, and in Turkey in the summer of 2015. It is tentatively scheduled for release in 2016. Information about the film, cast, and crew can be found at

“We are thrilled to have a very skilled character actor Dave Bresnahan play the role of Frank, a Catholic priest. He will perform a very significant supporting role that opens the film and then will help bring the story to conclusion. His background as an Irish-American with relatives who currently live in Ireland brings added perspective to our international cast and crew,” said Sarikaya.

There are presently an estimated 50 million Irish-Americans, many of whom come from families who came to America to escape the devastation of the famines in Ireland during the 1800s.

“Many people today, including Irish-Americans, are not fully aware of the devastating loss of life that took place because of the famine in Ireland. I am deeply honored to be a part of this film project that will bring the reality of the famine to the screen so that modern generations will know what their ancestors had to endure,” said Bresnahan.

Bresnahan’s family came from County Killarney and County Wexford in Ireland, where he still has cousins he stays in contact with. Bresnahan has lived in Ireland and Northern Ireland at an earlier time in his life, and continues to visit with his family as often as possible. He currently lives with his wife and four children in the Salt Lake City, Utah area.
